Money as a single parent is a tricky subject, there’s only one source of income and one person paying the bills for you and your little one’s and that’s hard!
MakingMoneyMummy.com has a number of posts with money making and saving ideas and is well worth checking out if you’re struggling. I thought I’d put together some of my top tips to help you save and make money as a single mom.
Use Cashback Sites
Cashback sites are a great way to make some money on your spending. They’re super easy to use and you can make a % back from you total spend that can either be converted into cash or vouchers. Some of the best cashback sites are Quidco and TopCashBack. They both offer flash deals at different times of the year to get even more money back. For example I got an extra £50 cashback at Quidco when signing up to a new internet provider.
Write a meal plan & shopping list
I don’t know about you but I find food shops take up a huge part of my weekly and monthly budget, especially when I do the food shop while hungry! Making a meal plan and then a shopping list based on your meal plan will help you avoid buying unnecessary food, cut down on snacks and cut down on food waste, all saving you money each week!
Look at your Direct Debits
Having an audit of your finance might just surprise you. Cancel that gym membership that you keep ‘just in case you have time’ and calculate the amount your wasting on coffee stops at Starbucks after dropping the little ones to school. By having a serious overhaul of your budget you can figure out where most of your money is going and then figure out how to save some money!
A fav way of mine to save up for things like kids birthdays or car insurance is to use an automatic savings app like Plum. You connect Plum to your bank and it can analyse your spending and figure out how much you can afford to save each week due to this
