The hair has left the girl…..

I’ve been part of the professional beauty industry for 16 years.  I have had great pleasures of doing incredible hair on many beautiful & confident women.   This post is about one of them.  I met Kelly when I was a guest artist for ISO Haircare.  I was at a model casting in 2000, choosing models, when she caught my eye.  Kelly was just looking for an adventure and some nice hair.  We instantly connected and following the show, she became a client.  Over the years her fearlessness to try drastic new haircuts & color has inspired many around her.
A few years ago she moved about 9 hours away from my shears & I.  This didn’t stop her loyalty.  She refuses to put her hair in anyone else’s hands. kw 4-2_2

Still humbled by her presence every 6-8 months, Kelly arrives to p!ay with VERY grown out roots and hair begging to be cut.  She leaves just a couple hours later with whatever brilliance SHE usually suggests.  I always have great ideas for my clients, however Kelly is visually blessed with the ability to choose looks, usually celebrity inspired, that suit her well.   Kate Moss, Gweneth Paltrow, Edie Sedgwick & Mia Farrow….
Earlier this year she e-mailed me and requested a 60’s cool, Edie chop & I was definitely down for the look.  I decided to film & have a photographer, Todd Jones, capture the transformation. Celebrity make-up artist, Laci Hill, joined us.  I just knew it was gonna kick ass.  KICK ASS it did & you get to watch it go down.  Please enjoy.

Hey Brig! I’m a big fan over on the east coast and had a question.

Im a recent cosmo graduate, with a lv 6 Copper Mahogany brown; (Pravana 6.45) … I’m wanting to go BLONDE BLONDE(White vintage blonde). The good news is, my hair is already pretty short, growing out a pixie cut.
What would you do? I dont want to completely fry my hair, but I also dont want to lose length. I was thinking of using a color remover(Pravana), Putting on the lightest toner I can get away with and let it sit a few days and then bleaching the crap out of it before putting on a final toner. haha
Im asking you what you would do in my situation because all my fellow stylist I work with refuse to do it “You have to fry your own hair off, we arent responsible!” To quote. haha
Figured you are the queen of complete makeovers. :P

    Hi Kris,
I am so sorry I never replied to your question. My mom was/is very ILL and I shut down last year to focus on her. I would have advised you to test strand before each application to prevent your hair from falling out. Did it? I would have agreed with your fellow stylists, but done a test strand to see if it would even go above a 7/8. I doubt it would, but there are miracle moments depending on how fine someone’s hair is. I am always available at brig@playhairlounge.com I am sorry again for not replying. Definitely not my style. :) Brig

    Hi Destiny,
I’m sorry I did not reply to your ?. My mom was/is very ill and I shut down last year to make her care my priority. I never feel overwhelmed because I usually use my own closet to put together the fashion seen in my shoots. I do not cement an idea down until the shoot is in action. I create my best looks, hair & fashion, on the fly. That way I have nothing to “chase”, just create. Thrift stores offer brilliant 1 of a kind items that are cheap enough to cut, pin, paint, whatever. I will be posting soon showing a blonde in an amazing handmade $4 thrift store find. I love that it is unusual from the pages of magazines. Often everyday fashion/trends bore me. Good luck! I hope this helps. Once again, so sorry for not replying to you sooner. :) Brig You can always e-mail me for a quick response: brig@playhairlounge.com
