Dear Brig,
This summer I used a “semi permanent” color on my hair but it is not coming out. What can I do to get rid of it? Why is it still in my hair?
Oh yeah, many people are all too familiar with this scenario. Depending on the condition of your hair, whether it is dry and damaged or super healthy can effect the amount of time a semi-permanent hangs around. First let me define a true semi-permanent hair color: It comes out of one bottle or jar. No developer or activator is mixed with it. Often times these colors are the bright punk colors. Semi-permanent color acts as a stain. The more porous the surface of your hair, the longer lasting. Your hair just sucks them up and it can create an ugly situation when you are “over” the color. First start by using a “clarifying” shampoo. Something super cheap will work fine. Leave the shampoo on your hair for 30 minutes and rinse out. Try this a couple of times. If that doesn’t yield the results you want it is best to see a professional colorist. If you can bring in what you used it will help the colorist create a realistic end result for you.
